Jose Manule Calderon announced his plans to take a rest this offseason in order to fully recover from his injuries. 27-year-old Toronto Raptors point guard was injured in quarter-final game aggainst Croatia in Beijing Olympic Games. Because of the injury he had to miss semi-final and final in Beijing.
After finishign the season in NBA Calderon underwent a finger operation. He is still in rehabilitation process and is not willing to take a risk of playing for Spain in Eurobasket 2009.
Calderon spent 34.3 minutes per game for the Raptors with 12.8 points and 8.9 assists per game in 68 appearances.
Spain will play in Group C alongside Great Britain, Serbia and Slovenia.
