In an interesting interview the legend of Russian basketball, Sergey Belov did not hesitate to attack David Blatt accusing him of sabotaging the Russian University National Team, which he coaches and finished second in Universiade 2009, in Serbia.
"I have no doubt in my mind, judging by the players Blatt chose to call up for the Russian National Team preparation, that it was a 100% sabotage agaist the Universiade National Team, by his side."
"Could you imagine a foreigner being in charge of the development of the entire Serbian basketball?! And here we accept this situation gladly. When me and the president of the University Basketball Association, Alexander Konovalov started this project I had stated that the University National Team should have the status they deserve in the Russian Basketball Federation. Judging by the players' age we should be considered the "B" team of Russian National Team."
"That would allow us to have a more suitable season calendar and an extra month of preparing. If things don´t change soon we will not see any results in the Universiade of 2011. To quote Joseph Stalin – This was simply a sabotage!"
