Latvia to choose from three candidates

Latvian Basketball FederationThe official website of Latvian Basketball Union (LBS) announced three candidates for the head coach position of Latvia national team. The list consists of two Lithuanians and one Latvian. Jonas Kazlauskas, former head coach of Lithuania and China is the biggest name on the list.

The other two are Kestutis Kemzura and Gundars Vetra. Kemzura is working at Khimki. However his position is not safe after recent results.

Former Latvia national tea player Gundars Vetra is also working in Russia. He is a head coach of a women team CSKA Moscow.

Jonas Kazlauskas is the only candidate who doesn't have a contract with any club. Though he should be the most expensive choice.

LBS hopes to appoint new coach until the new year. Financial power of LBS will be important during negotiations. Both Kazlauskas and Kemzura are or were working at the top level in men's basketball and it won't be very easy financially to sign one of them.

Latvia qualified for Eurobasket 2009 last summer. They were drawn in Group B alongside defending champions Russia, Germany and a team which will qualify through Additional Qualifying Tournament.
