Latvia closed the EuroBasket 2025 group stage in emphatic fashion, defeating Czechia 109-75 on Wednesday night in Riga.
The victory marked only the fifth time in EuroBasket history that Latvia reached the 100-point mark in a single game. Their 109 points tied the national record, first set in an overtime loss to Spain in 2005.
Latvia’s offense flowed from the opening tip, but it was their third-quarter defense that sealed the outcome. They outscored Czechia 28-12 in that stretch, entering the final frame with a 30-point lead.
Davis Bertans led the way with 20 points in just 22 minutes, shooting 7-of-10 from the field, including three triples. He also grabbed five rebounds as Latvia improved to 3-2 in Group A.
Kristaps Porzingis added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Dairis Bertans matched his brother’s scoring with 20. Rolands Smits chipped in 16, and Arturs Kurucs contributed 12.
Latvia shot a blistering 58.8 percent from the field and 47.2 percent from three-point range, knocking down 17 triples as a team. They also won the rebounding battle 41-27 and finished with 31 assists.
Czechia struggled to keep pace despite 11 points each from Vit Krejci and Ondrej Sehnal. Martin Peterka added 11 points and six rebounds, but his side fell to 0-5 and exited the tournament without a win.
For Latvia, the result secured third place in Group A with an 8-point tally. Turkey and Serbia clinched the top two spots, while Portugal joined Latvia in advancing to the knockout stage.
The 34-point margin was not Latvia’s largest in EuroBasket history, but it reaffirmed their offensive firepower on home soil. The all-time record remains their 108-7 victory over Finland in 1939.
