Italian basketball finds itself mourning the premature loss of Paolo Barlera after a long struggle with leukemia. Barlera was born in September 8th 1982 and was just 27 years old.
216cm tall Barlera made his debute in Serie A with Virtus Bologna in the 1999-2000 season. He subsequently played for Castelmaggiore of the LegaDue and Biella in Serie A.
"The pain is immense. We lose a golden boy who at least ceased to suffer" said Claudio Sabatini, president of Virtus Bologna.
The players of Virtus and Biella will be wearing black armbands in their encounters against Benetton and Scavolini on Sunday.
