BBL CupThe Cheshire Jets will meet either the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders or the Sheffield Sharks in the BBL Cup Final, on Sunday 17th January 2010, after an 83-71 victory for the Jets over the Marshall MK Lions, which secured a 167-159 aggregate victory to send them into the final.

The game was tight throughout, with only three points separating the sides at the half, with the Jets on top 42-39. The took off in the third however, with a 22-10 burst which gave them a 64-49 lead, despite a 7-2 run from the Lions then clawing it back to 66-56 in the Jets favour.

The final quarter saw the Lions trim the deficit still further back to six points at 77-71, thanks to a pair of free throws from Frank Holmes with 45 seconds remaining. The Jets ran the Sheffield defence ragged in an effort to try and run the clock down as much as possible as time expired on the shot clock. Colin O'Reilly bagged a crucial three pointer however, to give the home side an 80-71 lead with 20 seconds left, and whilst the Lions tried valiantly to get the score back once again, a Chez Marks fast break basket for the Jets sealed a massive win, to leave the Northgate faithful delighted.

Sunday also saw the Glasgow Rocks leapfrog the Everton Tigers and the Worthing Thunder into seventh position in the table, thanks to an 88-54 victory over the Essex Pirates, who had ran last year's semi finalists the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders close on Friday evening, the score being an 84-81 Riders win.

The Worthing Thunder will be pleased to move into the final playoff spot, taking a lot from this weekend via a 104-90 defeat of the Newcastle Eagles, giving the Sharks, who beat the Guildford Heat 86-97 on Saturday evening also, some breathing room at the top of the BBL Championship table.

Another of Saturday's top stories was the Riders making history, as they equalled the highest ever winning margin in a BBL contest, with a 110-38 victory over PAWS London Capital. The September 1987 match between Crystal Palace and Livingstone in which Palace were crushed 37-109 is the only other game with a 72 point differential. Riders had many runs in the match of which a 23-6 burst in the third quarter made the match absolutely safe at 72- 22.

In Devon on Saturday it was Everton Tigers who took home the points with a 69-84 win at Plymouth Raiders. The hosts never led as Tigers held them at bay with an excellent team effort.
