Following violent incidents that took place after the end of the EuroChallenge game between Apoel Nicosia and Pinar Karsiyaka, the home club (Apoel) has been found guilty of infractions of Articles 65.4 and 65.13 of the FIBA Europe Regulations for European Club Competitions.

As a consequence, the following penalties were imposed to the club:

1. Maximum fine according to the aforementioned Articles.*
2. The next three(3) European home games will be played without spectators.

 

Cyprus Basketball Federation Issues Apology

In a letter addressed to FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin and the Turkish Basketball Federation, the Cyprus Basketball Federation apologised for the events that occured after the game.

“Such acts of hooliganism are an enemy to our sport and should find us all on the same side in the battle against it” Secretary General Emilios Theodosiou wrote.

The Cyprus Basketball Federation also expressed its intention to cooperate fully with Police Authorities in order to identify the individuals responsible for the acts of violence.
