International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann died at the age of 51, due to a heart attack.
Baumann joined FIBA in 1994 as a lawyer and served as FIBA deputy secretary general from 1995-2002. He was unanimously appointed by the FIBA Central Board as Secretary General in 2002.
The World Federation extended his contract in 2010 and Baumann would retain his place as Secretary General until 2028.
He has been a basketball player, coach, and referee in Switzerland and Italy.
