Last season, Olympiacos guard Vassilis Spanoulis passed Theo Papaloukas for second place in the EuroLeague assists table. And now, as the regular season draws to a close, Kill Bill has reached the summit.
A simple drive to the hoop from Spanoulis and kick out to an open Vangelis Mantzaris with 2.2 seconds left in the first quarter made the veteran pass Panathinaikos’ legend Dimitris Diamantidis as the all-time assist leader.
Spanoulis, who ended with eight assists in a narrow 87-85 loss to Malaga now has 1,260, five more than Diamantidis.
