Zalgiris Kaunas added depth and athleticism to its roster by inking swingman Axel Toupane to a one-year deal with an option for another season, the club announced Thursday.

Toupane (1.97 meters, 25 years old) arrives from New Orleans of the NBA, where he averaged 5.5 points in two games last season. He also played for Milwaukee in the NBA and Raptors 905 of the D-League. Toupane averaged 16.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 37 D-League games.

He started his career with Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez’s U21 team and also played for Strasbourg in France and Denver in the NBA. Toupane helped Strasbourg win two titles, the French Cup and the French Leaders Cup, in 2015.

He also helped France win a silver medal at the 2012 U20 European Championships and a bronze one at the 2011 U20 European Championships. Toupane played in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with Strasbourg and averagd 2.5 points in 10 games in the 2014-15 season.
