Baskonia have officially matched Barcelona’s offer for EuroLeague Defensive Player of the Year Adam Hanga.

It means that the Hungarian forward will remain with Baskonia on a three-year deal worth €7.5million.

It’s a huge positive for Baskonia who reacted quickly to Barcelona’s original offer for Hanga, as well as point guard Shane Larkin, who is reportedly returning to the NBA to join the Boston Celtics.

Hanga, a late second-round pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, averaged 11.9 points a game in the Liga Endesa last season as well as 10.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals in the EuroLeague.

The 28-year-old, Budapest native also led Hungary to its first Eurobasket since 1999 last summer and he headlines the preliminary squad ahead of the event that begins on the final day of August.
