Survivor of 2011 EuroLeague winning side returns to Athens

Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens added size and experience to its roster by signing center Ian Vougioukas to a two-year deal, the club announced Wednesday.

Vougioukas (2.12 meters, 32 years old) returns to the Greens, where he played two seasons, from 2010 to 2012, and won the EuroLeague in 2011. He arrives from Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, where he averaged 8.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 18 7DAYS EuroCup games last season in helping his team reach the semifinals.

In his most recent Turkish Airlines EuroLeague experience, Vougioukas averaged 11.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in 24 games for Zalgiris in the 2015-16 season. He also won the Lithuanian League crown that season. Vougioukas has played a total of six seasons in Europe’s premier competition with Olympiacos Piraeus and Galatasaray Istanbul in addition to his time with Panathinaikos and Zalgiris.

He has also played in the EuroCup for Panellinios and Rethimnon of Greece, Unics Kazan of Russia and ratiopharm Ulm in Germany. Vougioukas reached the EuroCup Finals in 2014 with Unics and the EuroCup Semifinals with Panellinios in 2010. Vougioukas has also been a member of the Greek national team.
