Final Four hosts Tenerife have won the first ever FIBA Basketball Champions League title after a narrow 63-59 victory over Turkish side Banvit on Sunday night.
Long time leaders of the Liga Endesa, Tenerife have fallen down the domestic table recently, so a run culminating in Champions League glory might kick start their season once again as the Playoffs in Spain are looming.
Marius Grigonis led Tenerife with 18 points and got the Final Four MVP award, with regular season MVP Jordan Theodore adding 17 for the runners-up.
It brings the first instalment of the Champions League to an end, and while it was slow to get off the ground due to the hostility between FIBA and EuroLeague Basketball, on the whole, it has been entertaining and a welcome tournament that promises to get better as the seasons progress.
AS MONACO DAZZLE TO THIRD PLACE
French side AS Monaco brought their first continental tournament to an end with a dominant 91-77 win over Reyer Venezia in the third placed game.
American Brandan Davis paced the French League side with 17 points as Monaco pulled away in the second quarter for the easy victory.
