Final Four hosts Tenerife have won the first ever FIBA Basketball Champions League title after a narrow 63-59 victory over Turkish side Banvit on Sunday night.

Long time leaders of the Liga Endesa, Tenerife have fallen down the domestic table recently, so a run culminating in Champions League glory might kick start their season once again as the Playoffs in Spain are looming.

Marius Grigonis led Tenerife with 18 points and got the Final Four MVP award, with regular season MVP Jordan Theodore adding 17 for the runners-up.

It brings the first instalment of the Champions League to an end, and while it was slow to get off the ground due to the hostility between FIBA and EuroLeague Basketball, on the whole, it has been entertaining and a welcome tournament that promises to get better as the seasons progress.
