Ufuk Sarica has been named as the new head coach of the Turkish national side, in a press conference held earlier today in Istanbul.
Sarica has signed a deal until 2020. And despite his new-found international duties, he will still remain as head coach of Besiktas.
Hedo Turkoglu, the president of the Turkish Basketball Federation federation clarified that there is no issue with Sarica club duties with Besiktas. His contract with the Istanbul-based side ends in the summer of 2018 with the option for one more season.
Turkey are the main hosts of this summer’s Eurobasket tournament with Israel, Finland and Romania also assisting. Istanbul will host the first and final rounds with the Ulker Sports Arena on the Asian side housing Turkey, Belgium, Serbia, Russia, Latvia and Great Britain.
The Sinan Erdem Dome, on the European end will host the final round including the championship game.
