BC Roma SPQR, a basketball project led by Luka Doncic, has submitted a binding offer to secure one of the eight new franchises EuroLeague plans to introduce as part of its expansion.

The Italian capital now has two separate candidates seeking entry into the competition, with BC Roma SPQR joining Roma Maxima in the selection process.

Roma Maxima had already been included among the applicants before EuroLeague shareholders gathered in Como to discuss the competition’s future.

BC Roma SPQR’s late entry reportedly played a role in delaying the announcement of new franchises, as shareholders decided that additional time was needed to examine the proposals.

The application also increases the total number of candidates to 14, highlighting the competition for the available positions.

EuroLeague has not confirmed whether either Rome-based project will receive a franchise, with the selection process still ongoing.

The Board of Directors has been instructed to review the applications and submit its recommendations to shareholders for approval in the coming weeks.

If selected, BC Roma SPQR would become part of EuroLeague’s planned expansion, which is scheduled to begin with the 2027–28 season.
