Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr stirred up discussion among NBA fans after a brief exchange with a fan about LeBron James went viral on social media.
In the video, a Warriors fan told Kerr that the team needed to sign James this offseason.
“We got him,” Kerr said.
The clip quickly fueled speculation about what Kerr meant, especially after Warriors star Stephen Curry publicly encouraged James to join Golden State during an appearance on Good Morning America earlier the same day.
Despite the excitement, recent reports suggest the Warriors are no longer among the leading contenders to sign James.
ESPN’s Shams Charania has reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers remain the primary teams in the race, with several reports indicating James is expected to stay in the Eastern Conference.
Golden State had been viewed as a legitimate landing spot because of the chemistry Curry and James displayed while helping Team USA win Olympic gold in Paris under Kerr’s coaching.
