The Boston Celtics have agreed to a new deal with center Amari Williams, keeping the 24-year-old in the organization after his rookie NBA campaign. NBA insider Michael Scotto reported Monday that Williams has agreed to return to Boston.

Williams appeared in 22 games during the 2025-26 season, making two starts while averaging 6.6 minutes per game. His role was limited, but he provided size and defensive depth whenever called upon, averaging 1.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.5 blocks while shooting 50.0% from the field.

The re-signing gives Boston additional continuity in a frontcourt that already features several established contributors. The Celtics finished the regular season 56-26, good for second place in the Eastern Conference and the Atlantic Division title before falling to the Philadelphia 76ers in seven games in the opening round of the playoffs.

Boston received strong production from its rotation of big men throughout last season. Neemias Queta emerged as the club’s primary center, averaging 10.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks across 76 games while shooting an efficient 65.3% from the field. Veteran Nikola Vucevic joined the team late in the season and averaged 9.7 points and 6.6 rebounds in 16 appearances, while Luka Garza contributed 8.1 points and 4.1 rebounds in a reserve role.

The Celtics have also continued to invest in their frontcourt for the future. During the 2026 NBA Draft, Boston selected Chris Cenac Jr. with the 27th overall pick before adding Dillon Mitchell with the 40th selection. Williams’ return gives the organization another developmental big man alongside its incoming rookies and established veterans.
