After Nikos Hatzivrettas and Dimos Dikoudis another member of the Greek National Team that won gold in the Eurobasket 2005 and silver in the World Championship 2006, joins Aris Thessaloniki. Michalis Kakiouzis will be wearing the yellow jersey for the next season.
32-year old Kakiouzis, who served as captain in the Greek NT, will be replacing Ira Newble who has repeatedly failed to meet deadlines to arrive from the US for the preparation of the team.
Kakiouzis started his career with Ionikos N.F. before joining AEK in 1995 where he stayed the next seven years. In 2002 he moved to Montepaschi Siena and in 2005 Barcelona acquired his services. The 2007-2008 season found him in Cajasol and last season he competed for Efes Pilsen.
Beside the successes with the Greek mens NT, Kakiouzis was practically born into success with the Greek junior NTs as he won gold in the U18 Eurobasket in 1993 and gold in the U19 World Championship in 1995.
