Jameer Nelson is reportedly among the candidates being considered by the Philadelphia 76ers as the organization continues its search for a new lead basketball executive.

Nelson currently serves as an assistant general manager in Philadelphia’s front office and is viewed internally as a rising executive with responsibilities that have already extended beyond a typical third-ranking role.

According to reports, even if Nelson does not land the top position, the Sixers are still expected to increase his role within the organization.

The former NBA point guard has strong ties to Philadelphia after growing up in the area and starring collegiately at Saint Joseph’s University, despite never playing for the Sixers during his 14-year NBA career.

Other reported candidates for the position include Mike Gansey of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Nick U’Ren of the Phoenix Mercury, Matt Lloyd of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Trent Redden from the Los Angeles Clippers.
