Cleveland Cavaliers guard Sam Merrill underwent an MRI on his left hamstring Wednesday after suffering an injury during the team’s Game 1 loss against the Detroit Pistons.

The player did not participate in practice while the Cavaliers continued evaluating the severity of the injury ahead of Game 2.

The veteran guard was hurt during Tuesday’s playoff opener, though the team has not yet announced the full results of the MRI or whether Merrill will be available moving forward in the series.

Merrill played an important role for Cleveland throughout the regular season, averaging 12.8 points while providing perimeter shooting and backcourt depth.

The Cavaliers and Pistons are scheduled to play Game 2 on Thursday.
