With the season nearing its end, the Spurs have ruled out Victor Wembanyama (left rib contusion) and Stephon Castle (right knee soreness) for Wednesday’s matchup against Portland.

However, there is optimism that both could return Friday versus the Dallas Mavericks, according to Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express-News.

San Antonio has been managing injuries carefully down the stretch, but Wembanyama’s situation carries extra significance.

He needs to play at least 20 minutes in one of the team’s final two games to qualify for end-of-season awards, including MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, making his potential return Friday especially important.
