The Denver Nuggets extended their winning streak to six games with a victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, but the win came with concerns as injuries piled up among their forwards, according to Bennett Durando of The Denver Post.
Head coach David Adelman expected a full rotation, but Aaron Gordon was ruled out after waking up with tightness in his left calf. With Gordon recently returning from a lengthy hamstring absence, the team chose to be cautious.
Peyton Watson started in his place, though he remains on a minutes restriction after missing six weeks and was limited further after picking up four early fouls.
Spencer Jones also exited after the first quarter due to right hamstring tightness, forcing another rotation change.
Later, Cameron Johnson left in the third quarter with back spasms, and Zeke Nnaji, who replaced him, suffered a left hip impingement after an awkward fall and was seen on crutches after the game.
“It’s just been so funny this year has been like that,” Adelman said. “It’s never a guard and a forward, or a guard and a center. It’s like, it’s just the whole (position) group goes out.”
The injuries opened minutes for Jonas Valanciunas, who had been out of the rotation, though he played just five minutes.
The severity of the injuries remains unclear, with further evaluations expected before Denver’s next game in Utah.
“Players after those things always tell you they’re gonna be fine. But they’ll get a better look at them tomorrow,” Adelman told reporters. “I didn’t get any information (on) if there’s any MRIs or X-rays or anything.”
