Peyton Watson has taken a step forward as a playmaker in his fourth season with the Denver Nuggets, especially as he approaches restricted free agency this summer, according to Vinny Benedetto of The Denver Gazette.
After returning from a hamstring strain that kept him out for several weeks, Watson has been highly productive in his first two games back.
He has averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists without committing a turnover, while shooting efficiently in just over 21 minutes per game.
Watson explained that his development begins with being aggressive offensively and forcing defenses to react to him.
“It starts with establishing your aggression offensively, though,” Watson said. “I think that every team in the NBA has to know that I’m a big threat, that if they don’t send multiple guys at me, I’m going to get going, and I’m going to be effective.
“When they start to do that and make those adjustments, it’s all about me seeing the next defender and making that play ahead of me.
“For me, right now, (it’s) just establishing myself as a scorer and as an offensive presence. I think that’s doing a lot for our team.”
