Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic delivered a remarkable performance in Wednesday’s win over the Dallas Mavericks, putting up numbers rarely seen in NBA history, as noted by Michael Kelly of Associated Press.
Playing on the second night of a back-to-back, Murray exploded for a season-high 53 points on highly efficient shooting, while Jokic nearly recorded a historic triple-double with 23 points, 21 rebounds, and 19 assists.
According to Kelly, this marks the first time in league history that one player has scored 50 or more points while a teammate has recorded at least 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 15 assists in the same game.
Head coach David Adelman praised the duo’s performance and long-standing partnership.
“Fifty-three from your point guard and 23, 21, 19 from your center. Just outrageous numbers from the best tandem in the NBA,” Adelman said.
“They really are the history book of this franchise when it comes to the longevity together, and also the playoffs and all these wars they’ve been through in a basketball sense, it’s just super special.”
Jokic’s dominance has extended beyond this game as well. He recorded another massive stat line the previous night against the Phoenix Suns, finishing with 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 17 assists.
He now leads the league in both rebounds and assists per game while also topping the NBA with 30 triple-doubles this season.
