The Philadelphia 76ers are set to face a familiar opponent as Jared McCain returns to Philadelphia, though his former teammates aren’t expecting any friendly moments once the game begins, according to Gina Mizell of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
McCain, who was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder at last month’s deadline, is expected to come out aggressively against his old team.
“Jared McCain’s about to try to come kill us,” said Trendon Watford. “We know how that’s about to go.”
McCain had been in the running for All-Rookie honors last season before injuries limited him to 23 games.
After recovering from knee and thumb surgeries, he struggled to find consistent minutes in Philadelphia’s crowded backcourt and even spent time in the G League.
Team executive Daryl Morey later said the Sixers “sold high” by trading him to Oklahoma City for draft assets, including a 2026 first-round pick, while also easing luxury tax concerns.
Since the move, McCain has developed into a valuable bench contributor for the Thunder, averaging 12.3 points per game and shooting 44% from beyond the arc.
Despite the trade, he remains well-liked by his former teammates, who are happy to see him succeed.
“That’s our dog,” said VJ Edgecombe. “Everyone still [loves] Jared. I’m pretty sure it’s vice versa. I’m just happy to see him hooping.”
