Dallas Mavericks CEO Rick Welts and president Ethan Casson said Thursday the team isn’t rushing its search for a permanent general manager, but hopes to have one in place before the June draft, according to Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News.

Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi are currently serving as co-interim GMs and remain candidates for the full-time role. Finley said he feels ready to take on the job.

“I think I am Dallas,” Finley said. “I’m everything that Dallas is about … I would love to have the chance to lead this franchise into the future and to, ultimately, championship contenders.”

Riccardi said both he and Finley are focused on the team’s best interests.

“All we care about is what’s best for the organization,” Riccardi said.

According to Grant Afseth, Riccardi has earned praise for his experience and unselfish approach.

“He has no ego,” one source said.

Dallas is also expected to consider outside candidates as it continues the search.
