The 2026 draft is widely viewed as one of the deeper classes in recent years, with an Eastern Conference scout telling Jake Fischer of The Stein Line that there could be “an entire lottery of freshmen.”

Fischer adds that the group is especially strong at guard, drawing comparisons to the 2018 class featuring Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and even the 2008 group led by Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook.

The depth of the class has also led some evaluators to suggest that even the No. 1 pick could be traded down to maximize value.

“There’s just too much opportunity to still get an All-Star caliber player and another future asset,” one scout said.

Executives believe talent could extend well into the 20s, with NBA-ready players available in the second round as well.

“This might be a draft where more guys are getting guaranteed (NBA contracts) in the second round,” a Western Conference scout said.

While freshmen are expected to dominate the lottery, upperclassmen like Joshua Jefferson, Thomas Haugh, Aday Mara, Bennett Stirtz, and Dailyn Swain are drawing interest later in the first round.

Meanwhile, Tyler Tanner, Braden Smith, and Allen Graves are also gaining traction, with Tanner and Graves standing out for their analytics profiles.
