As Spurs floor general De’Aaron Fox was the most criticized in the 2026 NBA Finals due to a lack of veteran presence, former NBA guard Patrick Beverley blasted his performance.
Beverley emphasized placing Fox in a higher role in the Spurs’ rotation, where he struggled to find his rhythm, and kept staying inside the court.
The former guard said that the elite coaches would have benched Fox in the important scenarios after poor decisions in the last minutes of their matchups.
“De’Aaron Fox was trash, I think he was god-awful… Coach should’ve had him come off the bench… You live and you learn. The difference between good coaches and elite coaches. No disrespect to coach Mitch.”
The 28-year-old point guard averaged 15.6 points, six assists, and 3.8 rebounds in 21 games during the playoffs. He shot 41.4% from the field and 29.4% from three-point range.
San Antonio could legally trade him after the six-month trade restriction from signing his contract extension expired back on February 4, 2026.
