The Atlanta Hawks travel to face the Houston Rockets on Friday night with both teams managing key absences that could shape rotations and late-game execution.
Atlanta enters the matchup on an 11-game winning streak, but its injury report still includes frontcourt depth concerns, most notably Jonathan Kuminga being ruled out due to left knee injury management.
Several Hawks reserves, including RayJ Dennis, Keshon Gilbert, and Asa Newell, are listed as doubtful due to G League assignments, leaving the primary rotation largely intact.
That places increased responsibility on Jalen Johnson, who is averaging 22.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 8.1 assists, functioning as the team’s primary initiator in half-court sets.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker adds 20.3 points per game and spacing from beyond the arc, while Onyeka Okongwu anchors the interior with 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds.
Houston’s injury situation is more impactful at the guard position, with Fred VanVleet ruled out following ACL repair.
The frontcourt is also affected, as Steven Adams remains out after ankle surgery and Jae’Sean Tate is sidelined with a knee sprain. Two-way player Tristen Newton is also out.
Kevin Durant continues to lead the scoring load with 25.7 points per game. Alperen Sengun adds 20.3 points and 6.1 assists from the center position.
The previous meeting this season saw the Rockets secure a decisive win, holding Atlanta to 86 points.
Tipoff is set for 8:00 PM ET at Toyota Center, where availability and execution in the backcourt will likely determine the outcome.
