The Detroit Pistons reached a major milestone on Thursday, earning their 50th win of the season – their first 50-win campaign since 2007/08, when they finished 59-23, the team noted (via Twitter).
Detroit now sits comfortably atop the Eastern Conference standings, holding a four-game cushion over the Boston Celtics for the No. 1 seed.
Ausar Thompson, playing in his third game since returning from a right ankle sprain, contributed across the board with 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal in 22 minutes.
After the win, the third-year wing spoke about how the team is handling Cade Cunningham’s absence, according to Hunter Patterson (Twitter link).
“We play with him in our mind,” Thompson said. “How hard he goes every day, his energy, we’ve got to step up as a collective and bring that.
” … When he comes back we’re going to be very excited and ready for him to step in and do what he does.“
