With Cade Cunningham sidelined due to injury, the Detroit Pistons are expected to adjust their offensive approach, putting more responsibility on All-Star center Jalen Duren, as head coach J.B. Bickerstaff explained before the game, per Hunter Patterson (Twitter link).
The team plans to run more of its offense through Duren, leaning on his continued development and playmaking ability.
“That’s what it’s going to be,” Bickerstaff said. “The ball is going to be in his hands a ton, and he has the ability. It’s been great to see his growth overall as a connector. … He’s a guy we’ll play through.”
Duren delivered in that expanded role against Washington, posting 24 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals in just 25 minutes, helping Detroit secure a comfortable 22-point victory.
Duren has played 4 seasons for the Pistons. He has averaged 13.2 points and 10.3 rebounds in 265 regular-season games.
