Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr once again voiced support for reducing the length of the NBA regular season, bringing up the topic during the weekend, according to SNY’s Ian Begley.

Kerr acknowledged that cutting games from the schedule would likely reduce league revenue and impact salaries, but he said he would still support the change if it meant improving the overall quality of the game.

“I’m well aware fewer games would mean less revenue which means everybody takes a pay cut and I’m willing to stick my neck out and say I’m all for that because I think the quality of the product is the most important thing,” he said.

“So I don’t say these things flippantly. I say these things because I mean them.”

Kerr specifically suggested trimming about 10 games from the current schedule. He believes that doing so could help address issues like player fatigue and injuries while still maintaining a strong product for fans and league partners.

“We have incredible people in this league and great fans. I just want to make sure we give our fans the very, very best product we can and try to satisfy all of our corporate partners,” Kerr said.

“And I just think there’s probably a way to do that without just completely – I don’t know, ignoring some of the obvious (schedule-related injury) issues we’ve established.”
