Even though injuries have affected much of his season, the Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry says retirement is not something he is seriously considering anytime soon, according to Nick Friedell of The Athletic.
Curry shared those thoughts during an interview with The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II, explaining that while the physical demands of the game have changed for him over the years, his passion for playing remains strong.
“I think your body is the first point of information,” he said. “Just what it takes to get ready for a game is a lot different now than it was a decade ago.”
Curry acknowledged that preparation has become more demanding as he has gotten older, but he emphasized that the joy he still feels when he steps on the court continues to motivate him.
“When I’m out there on the court right now, I still get lost in the fun. It’s still my happy place. All the work is worth it because I get to go out there and hoop at the highest level.
“The competition, the camaraderie, the chasing something that matters – that still gets me going. And I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.”
Curry has played 17 seasons for the Warriors. He has averaged 24.8 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 1,065 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 11 All-Star games. He has won 2 MVP awards, 1 Finals MVP award, and 4 NBA championships.
