Former NBA player Glen Davis, who received a 40-month prison sentence in 2024 for his role in a scheme that defrauded the league’s health and welfare benefit plan, was released Thursday after serving 17 months, according to Matt Moret of The Athletic.

Davis was among 18 former NBA players charged in 2021 in connection with the fraud case. The scheme involved filing fraudulent claims for millions of dollars in medical and dental services that were never actually provided.

Davis, who played for the Celtics, Magic, and Clippers from 2007 to 2015, was ultimately convicted on several fraud-related charges and for conspiring to make false statements. He was also ordered to pay $80,000 in restitution.

Moret reports that Davis will now move to a halfway house as part of the transition process following his release from prison. As part of the conditions of his sentence, the 40-year-old will also be required to attend financial management courses and undergo drug treatment.

His time at the halfway house is expected to conclude on July 9, after which he will begin a three-year period of supervised release.

“He used his time productively while serving his sentence and took many programs during that time,” Davis’ attorney, Brendan White, told The Athletic. “He’s ready to become a productive member of society again.”
