The NBA announced Tuesday that Luka Doncic has been fined $50,000 for directing an inappropriate gesture toward a game official during the Los Angeles Lakers victory over the New York Knicks.
According to the league, the incident occurred with 4:35 remaining in the third quarter of the Lakers’ 110-97 win on March 8 at Crypto.com Arena.
The disciplinary action comes as Doncic continues to play a central role in the Lakers’ offense during the 2025-26 season. The 27-year-old guard leads the team in scoring and playmaking while carrying a heavy workload.
Through 52 games, the Slovenian star is averaging 32.5 points, 8.4 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 47.4% from the field and 36.0% from three-point range.
Doncic has started every game he has played this season and averages 35.5 minutes per contest. His production drives a Lakers attack built around high pick-and-roll usage and half-court creation.
Los Angeles currently holds a 39-25 record and sits fifth in the Western Conference standings. The team remains within reach of the top four as the regular season moves into its final stretch.
Los Angeles features multiple scoring options around Doncic, including Austin Reaves and LeBron James. Reaves is averaging 23.5 points and 5.4 assists, while the 41-year-old forward contributes 21.4 points and 7.0 assists per game.
Interior production has also been a factor in the team’s success. Center Deandre Ayton is averaging 12.4 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 66.7% from the field.
