In a piece available to subscribers of The Third Apron, Yossi Gozlan examines 11 NBA players who currently qualify for veteran contract extensions and evaluates their potential next deals.
Gozlan notes that Spurs wing Julian Champagnie has significantly outperformed the value of his current contract, making him a strong candidate for a substantial pay increase.
San Antonio controls a $3 million team option for Champagnie in the 2026/27 season, but the club would need to decline that option in order to negotiate an extension.
He explains that the maximum extension the 24-year-old could sign is worth $87 million across four years.
However, Gozlan believes a more balanced agreement might fall slightly below that figure, suggesting that a four-year contract valued around $75–76 million could make sense for both the player and the organization.
Beyond Champagnie, Gozlan also outlines projected extensions for other veterans, including Spurs forward Harrison Barnes and Jazz center Jusuf Nurkic, each of whom he estimates could receive two-year deals worth $24 million.
