Rudy Gobert, a four-time Defensive Player of the Year, has strong support from Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch to earn the honor once again, as reported by Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Finch made it clear he believes Gobert stands above all other candidates this season.

“I think he’s far and away the leader for Defensive Player of the Year,” Finch said.

However, betting markets currently favor other contenders.

Victor Wembanyama is widely viewed as the frontrunner for the award, with Chet Holmgren listed behind him.

Finch pushed back on that outlook and detailed why he believes Gobert deserves stronger consideration.

“His iso defense has been the top or near the top all year long,” Finch said.

“He drives our defense. The on/off numbers for us speak volumes to his importance. … He takes our defense to a whole ‘nother level. There’s nothing he can’t do defensively.”
