Police officers who stopped NBA player Dillon Brooks in Arizona said his vehicle smelled strongly of marijuana, likening the odor to that of a dispensary, according to body camera footage from his DUI arrest.
TMZ Sports obtained the video shortly after the Phoenix Suns guard was pulled over in Scottsdale around 1 a.m. Friday. During the stop, officers repeatedly mentioned the smell of cannabis coming from the car.
“Smells like a dispensary in your car.”
Police said Brooks was pulled over after they saw him swerving within his lane, though he pushed back and claimed the officers’ vehicle had also been swerving on the same road.
Brooks was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and taken to Scottsdale City Jail before being released around 3:30 a.m. He asked officers when he would be able to retrieve his Rolls-Royce.
In the footage, Brooks said he had not consumed alcohol in six months and appeared to register a 0.0 blood alcohol content reading on a breathalyzer test.
Brooks, who averaged 20.9 points per game this season, is recovering from a fractured left hand suffered in February and mentioned the injury during the encounter. He is expected to be reevaluated in the coming weeks.
