Lithuanian point guard Augustas Marciulionis spent much of last summer and fall with the Lakers organization and competed in the G League this season after going undrafted.

However, he completed a buyout of his G League contract this week so he could continue his career overseas, the South Bay Lakers announced.

As reported by BasketNews.com, Marciulionis has signed with his hometown team, Rytas Vilnius.

In a recent interview, the player explained that the decision came after realizing an NBA call-up was unlikely this season.

“In Vilnius, I could play for a team that truly cares,” he said. “I missed that feeling – the shivers and excitement the night before a game. When you care, you feel it. In the G League, the priorities are different. So, when Rytas offered me a contract, I didn’t hesitate.”

Marciulionis played college basketball at Saint Mary’s, where he appeared in 138 games and averaged 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game over his career.

He developed steadily over four seasons, becoming a two-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year and finishing his senior season with averages of about 14.2 points and 5.9 assists per game.
