Trae Young played under a minutes restriction in his Washington Wizards debut Thursday, with head coach Brian Keefe saying before the game that the guard would be limited to roughly 17 to 20 minutes.

Keefe said he believes Young will fit in well with the roster, noting that the team’s playing style and mentality should complement the veteran point guard’s approach.

“I think our guys are going to enjoy playing with him and I think he’s going to enjoy playing with our guys because they’re similar in mindset,” the coach said.

“It’s just another step on our process … and someone who’s going to help us get better.”

Despite the limited workload, the four-time All-Star made a solid contribution, finishing with 12 points, six assists, two rebounds, and two steals across 19 minutes of action.

Young has played 8 seasons for the Hawks and Wizards. He has averaged 25.2 points, 9.8 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 494 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 4 All-Star games.
