Marcus Sasser and trade deadline addition Kevin Huerter have yet to secure regular spots in the rotation, but the Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said both players should see more opportunities as the schedule intensifies next month.
With a busy stretch ahead, Bickerstaff expects the team’s depth to play a larger role.
“We got a heavy March, right? We got a ton of games in March where everybody will get an opportunity to play,” he said.
“And because of our depth, we feel confident that we can still compete at a high level with the depth that we have and get those guys some chances to play.”
Sasser logged 11 minutes in Friday’s overtime win over Cleveland but did not score.
Meanwhile, Isaiah Stewart, who is currently serving a seven-game suspension stemming from a pre-All-Star break altercation with Charlotte, said he models his game after Hall of Famer Ben Wallace, who won four Defensive Player of the Year awards with Detroit.
Stewart credited Wallace for setting an example for undersized big men and said he hopes to follow a similar path.
“He paved the way for us undersized guys,” he told Vince Goodwill of ESPN. “I’m trying to live up to that and put my name somewhere positive in this organization.”
