Jonathan Kuminga made an immediate impact in his Atlanta Hawks debut Tuesday night, scoring 27 points with seven rebounds and four assists in a 119-98 win over the Washington Wizards at State Farm Arena. “Just excited to be out there with the guys,” he said, reflecting on returning to game action after a long absence.

The high-flying forward highlighted his transition from Golden State and adapting to Atlanta’s system. “Coming into a new situation, new city… it’s basketball at the end of the day. Just trying to be a student at the game, learning from other players here from JJ, Nickeil… just trying to pick up their brain so I can keep up with them,” Kuminga explained.

He praised his connection with rookie Zaccharie Risacher, noting their early chemistry. “I love Reese’s game. I enjoy watching him every day… just try to be helpful as much as I can,” Kuminga said, emphasizing support and teamwork as the foundation for success.

Kuminga downplayed any notion of making a statement against his former team. “I wouldn’t say a statement… everybody always has their own opinions. At the end of the day, we’re trying to win as many games as we can here,” he said.

The forward described the personal satisfaction of performing well for his new team. “Feel great. New team… having those coaches and teammates that I know trusted me and pushed me throughout all my rehab to get to this point. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them,” he said, crediting Atlanta’s staff for his successful return.

He also highlighted the importance of team culture and transition play. “I watch a lot of games… playing transition, turning people over, playing as hard as you can. Those stuff match and feed my criteria. Just being a student of the game and learning small things that help me succeed,” Kuminga said.

Kuminga recalled the moment nerves faded during the game. “I try not to think about it. I got confidence from my teammates… everything would fall through. The first two minutes I was just thinking about it, but after that everything was cool,” he explained.

Atlanta dominated the Wizards early, leading by 15 after the first quarter and stretching the advantage to 100-64 in the third. Kuminga’s season-high performance included a thunderous dunk, three 3-pointers, and two steals in just 24½ minutes, demonstrating his versatility and readiness for his new role.

The Hawks will host Washington again Thursday night to complete the back-to-back, hoping Kuminga can continue to integrate seamlessly into the team’s rotation.
