The Orlando Magic have experienced an inconsistent season so far, currently holding a 30-26 record and sitting seventh in the Eastern Conference standings.
Despite some uneven results, the team has received exactly the type of production it hoped for from veteran wing Desmond Bane after acquiring him last summer in a major trade package that included four first-round draft picks, as Jason Beede of The Orlando Sentinel reports.
Bane has been one of the most reliable players on the roster, appearing in all 56 games this season – one of only two Magic players to do so.
His recent performances have been particularly impressive, highlighted by back-to-back scoring outbursts of 34 and 36 points during road games in Phoenix and Los Angeles over the weekend.
Those efforts have pushed his season average to 20.1 points per game while shooting an efficient .483 from the field, .388 from three-point range, and .913 from the free-throw line. He has also contributed across the board with averages of 4.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
Teammate Wendell Carter Jr. praised Bane’s steady mindset and professionalism, noting that his approach resembles that of established veterans who remain consistent regardless of circumstances.
“He reminds me of a lot of older guys in this league,” Carter said. “Guys who have established themselves and have a mindset of, he’s going to play his game no matter what. His process is going to remain the same.
“Early on (in the season), he was struggling a little bit but one thing about it, he stuck to what he knows he’s good at. And now we’re seeing the benefits of what trading for a guy like that does. His continued elevation just shows he’s one of the best in this league in terms of his position, shooting the 3-ball, getting downhill, facilitating, play-making … He’s exactly what we need.”
Bane remains a long-term piece of Orlando’s plans, as the Magic control his contract through the 2028/29 season.
He is set to earn $126.5MM across the final three years of his current deal, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to him as a core contributor moving forward.
