Tyrese Haliburton has encountered another setback during his recovery process, as the Indiana Pacers guard has been diagnosed with shingles, according to an ESPN report.

The condition will force him to step away from the team for several weeks while he focuses on treatment and recovery.

The diagnosis comes as Haliburton was already working his way back from a torn Achilles tendon, adding another challenge to what has been a difficult rehabilitation period for the All-Star guard.

Head coach Rick Carlisle explained that the symptoms appeared unexpectedly while Haliburton was traveling to meet the team in Washington, D.C., prompting him to return for further evaluation.

“It’s a very painful thing,” Carlisle said. “… He will make a full recovery, but this happened over the last few days. He was meeting us in D.C. and had some odd symptoms, and he came back here. That’s what’s happening with him.

“We certainly wish him a speedy recovery. It’s a unique case and a unique situation, but I talked to him a few times, and he’s always in a good mood, so he’ll get through it.”

Haliburton has played 5 seasons for the Pacers and Kings. He has averaged 17.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 3.7 rebounds in 333 regular-season games.

He was selected to play in 2 All-Star games.
