Bennedict Mathurin spoke after the Los Angeles Clippers’ 111-109 defeat to the Orlando Magic, emphasizing learning from the moment. “Great shot… obviously I wish I would have made that shot, but there’s nothing I can do other than work on it more to make myself feel better about it,” he said.
Mathurin highlighted the impact of veteran support. “Saw Kawhi go over and kind of encourage you afterwards… it means a lot, man. He’s one of the greatest players to have played the game,” he explained, noting that guidance from teammates helps younger players grow.
On team adjustments, Mathurin acknowledged changes since joining the Clippers. “People are still adjusting to a lot of changes… players on the team have bigger roles or in different situations,” he said.
Regarding time off, Mathurin stressed team cohesion and personal recovery. “With the team it’s sticking together… myself, just recovering, taking care of my body… coming back for the next four games stronger,” he explained, underscoring the balance between individual preparation and collective focus.
He reflected on his evolving role and scouting attention from opponents. “Other teams know about me more and more… just going through the rhythm… not trying to be myself out there, just helping the team,” Mathurin said, showing his commitment to team success over individual stats.
Mathurin also praised the competitive spirit of the Clippers’ roster. “It’s been great… shows a lot about who we are as players and as a team… guys are super competitive,” he said, highlighting the integration of new faces and the importance of collective effort.
His comments came after contributing 21 points and nine rebounds off the bench in Los Angeles’ tight loss. The Clippers fell to 27-29, sitting ninth in the Western Conference, while Orlando improved to 29-26 behind Desmond Bane’s 36 points.
Looking ahead, Mathurin focused on process over results. “Next three days are very important for us to get in the gym, practice, and go over defensive and offensive schemes… see when Kawhi gets doubled and what to do out there,” he said, signaling a commitment to preparation and improvement.
The Clippers will return home to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, hoping to translate individual growth and teamwork into wins in the final stretch of the season.
