The Golden State Warriors do not intend to shut Stephen Curry down for the rest of the season, head coach Steve Kerr said during an appearance Friday on 95.7 The Game’s Willard and Dibs show (YouTube link).
The star guard is currently sidelined as he continues to manage patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly known as runner’s knee, in his right knee and is expected to miss at least another week.
Kerr emphasized that the team is prioritizing caution with its superstar guard while also making clear that Curry will return as soon as he is medically ready, especially with Golden State still firmly in the playoff race.
“We’re not going to do anything silly, obviously,” Kerr said (story via Tristi Rodriguez of NBC Sports Bay Area). “We are protecting him. But as soon as he’s healthy, he’s going to play. That’s what this is about. We have lots to play for. We’re right in the mix in the playoffs.
“This is an injury that’s been nagging. It’s not like this is something that’s going to hurt him next year if we put him out there now. It’s just injury management. As soon as he’s healthy and ready to go, he’ll be out there.”
Curry has played 17 seasons for the Warriors. He has averaged 24.8 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 1,065 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 11 All-Star games. He has won 2 MVP awards, 1 Finals MVP award, and 4 NBA championships.
