The Atlanta Hawks provided a medical update on newly acquired forward Jonathan Kuminga, confirming he is progressing in his rehabilitation and will be re-evaluated in approximately one week.
NBA insider Michael Scotto reported Wednesday that the 23-year-old is recovering from a left knee bone bruise suffered on January 22 while playing for the Golden State Warriors against the Dallas Mavericks.
The injury occurred before Atlanta acquired him in a deadline deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Golden State. Kuminga arrived as part of a broader strategy centered on long-term flexibility and strengthening the roster around Jalen Johnson.
Before the setback, the 6-foot-7 forward had appeared in 20 games this season, making 13 starts. He averaged 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 23.8 minutes per game.
He shot 45.4% from the field and 32.1% from three-point range, with 1.5 offensive rebounds per contest.
Over five NBA seasons, Kuminga holds career averages of 12.5 points and 4.2 rebounds across 278 games. His most productive year came in 2023-24, when he posted 16.1 points in 26.3 minutes per game.
Atlanta enters the week at 26-30, 10th in the Eastern Conference standings. Jalen Johnson has carried a significant load, averaging 23.3 points, 10.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 35.7 minutes per game. Onyeka Okongwu is contributing 16.2 points and 7.7 rebounds, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker is adding 20.1 points per contest.
