Jeremy Sochan’s arrival is expected to reduce the playing time of rookie forward Mohamed Diawara, according to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post.

The New York Knicks plan to give Sochan extended opportunities as they evaluate his impact ahead of the playoffs and decide whether he fits into the team’s plans beyond this season.

Head coach Mike Brown emphasized that Sochan’s familiarity with the NBA should help him adjust quickly while the coaching staff assesses his role.

“[Sochan] knows the league. The league knows him. He knows the officials and vice versa. So he’s going to get an opportunity,” Brown said.

“But at the end of the day, I’m going to play who I think is best for us. Right now Jeremy is new. He hasn’t played for us. So I have to see rather quickly what we have in him before going to the playoffs.”

Sochan has played 4 seasons for the San Antonio Spurs. He has averaged 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 212 regular-season games.
