Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv protected its home court again on Thursday, defeating FC Bayern Munich 111-106 after overtime at Menora Mivtachim Arena in one of the highest-scoring EuroLeague games this season. The Israeli side improved to 13-15 in the standings, while the German club dropped to 12-16.
The game turned into a perimeter showcase as the hosts set a club record with 20 three-pointers, and the teams combined for 35 triples, matching a EuroLeague record. Efficient spacing and ball movement allowed the home team to create consistent catch-and-shoot opportunities.
The hosts controlled the first quarter and led 26-20, building momentum when Gur Lavy opened the second period with five quick points to stretch the margin.
Andreas Obst sparked the visitors’ comeback with a game-high 33 points, including a scoring burst that erased a double-digit deficit in minutes. The German forward’s off-ball movement and shooting forced defensive adjustments throughout the night.
The closing minutes of regulation featured several lead changes, highlighted by Neno Dimitrijevic hitting a difficult three-pointer plus the foul to give Bayern a late edge. Maccabi responded when Jimmy Clark found Oshae Brissett under the rim; Brissett split two free throws to send the game to overtime.
Extra time belonged to the hosts, who opened with aggressive drives and transition finishes before Brissett sealed the result with a steal and dunk. That defensive play reflected the emphasis on forcing turnovers after missed shots.
Roman Sorkin led the balanced attack with 21 points, while Tamir Blatt added 20 points on a perfect 6-for-6 from three along with nine assists. Will Rayman scored a career-high 16 points on five made threes, and Jaylen Hoard finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Maccabi will visit AS Monaco on Feb. 26, while Bayern travels to face Real Madrid the same day as both teams continue their push toward the playoff positions.
