Suns expected to waive Cole Anthony

The Phoenix Suns are likely to part ways with Cole Anthony, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7.

Phoenix picked up the veteran guard in a three-team trade last week, but the move was largely about shedding salary, as the Suns already have a crowded backcourt.

Anthony has not reported to the team, and it remains unclear whether he ever will. Head coach Jordan Ott indicated Saturday that discussions between the two sides are ongoing.

“I think they’re still determining that. Working through that as we speak,” Ott said.

Selected 15th overall in the 2020 draft, Anthony spent his first five NBA seasons with Orlando, where he averaged 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting .419/.345/.847 across 320 appearances.

His role diminished in recent years, and he was dealt to Memphis in the offseason as part of the Desmond Bane trade.

Anthony later reached a buyout with the Grizzlies and signed a one-year minimum contract with Milwaukee.

In 35 games with the Bucks this season, he posted 6.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in a career-low 15.1 minutes per night, shooting .424 from the field and .306 from three.
